IAAF News and Features
  • Toroitich and Belete win, Hassan and Cherono beaten – cross-country round-up
Timothy Toroitich scored his third victory on Spanish soil this winter at the 35th edition of the Cross Internacional de Venta de Banos on Sunday (21).
  • Kenyans Kibet and Chepngetich dominate in Brussels
The Iris Lotto CrossCup was marked by two thrilling duels between two Kenyan athletes. Alex Kibet won a fierce battle against his compatriot Abraham Kapsis Kipyatich while 19-year-old Sheila Chepngetich Keter triumphed over Commonwealth 1500m champion Faith Kipyegon at the IAAF Cross Country Permit meeting in Brussels on Sunday (21).
  • After breakout 2014, Almaz Ayana is ready to amaze in Beijing
The athletics world is accustomed to seeing Ethiopian women winning 5000m or 10,000m titles, but no one from the East African nation of 94million whose last name does not start with a ‘D’ had been able to get to the top of the podium at the Olympic Games, IAAF World Championships, IAAF World Cross Country Championships, or IAAF Continental Cup over the past decade prior to mid-September.
  • Yemaneberhan Crippa – the orphan born to run
You have to go back more than 30 years to find the last European runner who stood on the podium after the junior men’s race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships – when Spain’s Pere Casacuberta won in 1984 – so it has to be a very long shot that Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa will end that streak in Guiyang, China, next March.
  • Rop and Kipyegon top the bill in Brussels
A fine selection of the world’s most promising young distance runners, arguably topped by Bahrain’s Albert Rop and Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, will gather at the Iris Lotto Cross Cup meeting in Brussels, the second of this winter’s IAAF Cross Country Permit meetings, on Sunday (21).
