The current depth in the men’s shot put is such that someone could throw beyond 22 metres in Doha and it might not be enough for a medal.

After another nearly flawless season, Gong Lijiao arrives primed to successfully defend her title. If she succeeds, the 30-year-old Chinese star will become just the fourth woman to do so in the event.

Only once in IAAF World Championship history has the men’s discus required a 70-metre throw to strike gold, but on the evidence of what we have seen so far during a stellar year for the event, a throw beyond this distance could be a necessity to climb the top step of the podium.

What do Pawel Fajdek and Paula Radcliffe have in common? Obviously, the fact that when you look at their athletics CVs and get to the Olympic bit, you find that neither of these towering performers has even a bronze.

    2014 Presentation Night

Our presentation was at the 18 Footers Club on the harbour (literally – we had the balcony all to ourselves!) and 29 attendees enjoyed the night. The venue was fantastic with awesome view and dinner was really good too. We have some photos available at our Facebook page.

    2014 State Relays - Report

State relays this year were very successful for Randwick Botany Harriers. Many athletes responded to our initial call and that resulted in 19 of our teams being entered for this competition. After some good running at State 3k Championships, there was a rumour going around that our Open Men 4x1500m team would attempt to break state record. There was also some excitement among junior runners. All this contributed to exceptional medal tally of 4 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medal. Last year we had only 2 gold and 3 silver.

    NSW Road Relays - Report

Our club didn't enter many teams for State Road Relay Championships but those competing on the day performed brilliantly. This competition was held only 6 days after Gold Coast Marathon which didn't help. Also few good runners opted to run 10k fun run the following day instead of competing for the club and that was disappointing. We entered 5 teams only but the medal tally for the day was more than impressive: 3 gold and 1 silver medal.
